Liquid Glass Screen Protection

Liquid Glass Screen Protection: How Liquid Protection Works

How does liquid glass screen protection work—and does it really work? Allow us to answer both questions, along with other commonly asked questions about liquid armor for phone screens.

A liquid screen protectant is easy to add to your phone, making it harder and stronger in minutes. There are several brands that sell a similar variation of the product, including First-Defense by Qmadix, and Cellhelmet’s Liquid Glass Screen.

How Does Liquid Glass Screen Protection Work?

As its name suggests, liquid glass screen protector is a liquid with the active ingredient silicon dioxide. It fills the pores of your screen to create a non-porous surface area that is much stronger and resistant to cracking and breaking.

Nanotechnology is science, engineering, or technology that measures 1 to 100 nanometers. The technology behind liquid screen protection is so small you’d need a microscope to see it after applying it to your phone. At a microscopic level, you’d be able to see the glass is porous post-application.

How to Apply Liquid Screen Protection

Specific instructions vary based on the brand you pick up. Generally, it comes in a bottle or tube. Most brands come with a pre-cleaner to disinfect your phone and rid it of any stuck-on dirt or debris.

Once your screen is clean and dry, spray the liquid armor over the screen and use a cloth to buff it out evenly over the screen surface. Let your phone sit for 5 to 10 minutes or so to dry, and then it can be used normally. It takes between 24 and 48-hours to fully cure, or set into place, and become more durable.

Plan to use one pack per phone to achieve desired layering and protection.

Can I Use It All Over My Phone Instead of a Case?

Liquid glass protection is specially designed to adhere to your phone’s glass screen and is not recommended for other materials such as plastic, rubber, or metal. That means it will prevent your screen from cracking but it will not protect the surrounding surfaces on your device. We recommend keeping a phone case on, as liquid armor is meant to protect the screen only.

Does Liquid Armor Mess Up the Quality of Your Screen?

It’d be tricky to tell the difference between a phone with a liquid glass screen protectant from a phone without it… until you drop it, of course. Like we mentioned before, you need a microscope to see the difference. It is invisible to the naked eye, super thin and smooth, and completely transparent.

Benefits of Liquid Screen Protectors

  • Affordable and easy to apply
  • Invisible and smooth to the touch
  • Highly transparent and does not mess up the quality of your screen from any angle
  • Lightweight does not add bulk to your device
  • Bubble-free
  • Easy to clean with a soft cloth
  • Safe for all devices—from Samsung to iPhone and everything in between

Putting Liquid Glass Protection to the Test

Cellhelmet’s Pin Drop Test

Cellhelmet put their Liquid Glass Cleaner to the test using a 2.4-ounce pinball dropped at different heights. A smartphone without liquid glass survived a 1.4-inch drop but shattered when the pin was dropped from 2 feet up.

By adding liquid glass protectant, the same phone easy sustained impact from a 2-foot drop… in fact, there was no damage to the phone even when the pin was dropped from 8 feet 4 inches high. The breaking point for a phone treated with Cellhelmet’s liquid glass protectant was 9.3 feet.

The Motorcycle Test

YouTube channel Linus Tech Tips recently tested out the Liquid Armor Screen Protector by dragging two Blackberry phones (one treated with liquid armor and the other not) behind a motorcycle. At first glance, it appeared both phones were scratched on the screen. Upon closer inspection, the scratches on the Blackberry treated with Liquid Armor were removable by scraping off a layer of liquid armor. On the other hand, the untreated BlackBerry was badly scratched and needed a replacement screen.

Can You Add Liquid Glass Protector to a Cracked Screen?

If your screen is already cracked you’ll need to have it replaced before adding screen protectant. A cracked screen will continue to weaken and crack even after adding liquid glass.

Final Consensus on Liquid Glass Screen Protection

Adding a liquid armor to your phone’s screen can save it from shattering. It’s not fool-proof though, it can still shatter under enough impact and suffer from sharp scratches. Plus, it is prone to showing fingerprints from the oils on your skin. Still, all in all, it’s a great way to protect your phone against accidents.
